Custom PVC keychains may look simple, but turning your artwork into a finished product involves precision mold-making, hand coloring, and strict quality control. Here is exactly what happens inside a professional factory — so you know what to expect and what to check.
Your design (AI, PDF, or EPS vector file) is reviewed and separated by color layers. The factory prepares a technical drawing showing the front, back, and side views of the keychain.
For 3D characters, the design is converted into a 3D model so you can preview the shape, proportions, and details before any metal is cut.
A steel mold is CNC-machined from the approved design. This is the highest one-time cost in the process, but a good mold can produce tens of thousands of pieces.
Liquid PVC is injected into the closed mold under heat and pressure, then cooled. The raw figure comes out of the mold as a soft, single-color blank.
Skilled workers hand-paint each color area on the blank using Pantone-matched paints. This step gives PVC keychains their lively, handcrafted character.
The finished charm is attached to the metal key ring, ball chain, or lanyard. Any extra elements — such as printed backing cards or hanging tags — are added here.
